Magnificent mountains, beautiful lakes, world class attractions and an abundance of things to see and do make a trip to the Lake District an absolute must! Marvel at the unsurpassed beauty of the Lake District, where mountains cut dramatically towards shimmering waters and beautiful birds fly overhead. Amble around the shops and art galleries before treating yourself in one of the cosy pubs and cafes – all set against the stunning backdrop of England’s highest peaks!

On this tour we enjoy the famous Lake District ‘High Adventure’ where the ‘Mountain Goat’ minibuses take us where large coaches cannot go. This is a wonderful day, taking in the mountain passes of the Western Fells – Wrynose Pass, the desolate Duddon Valley, and the stunning Hardknott Pass. See the lonely Roman Fort as we descend into Eskdale for a ride on L’al Ratty – the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, before seeing Wastwater – voted Britain’s favourite view - and then visiting Muncaster Castle Garden and Owl Sanctuary. From here we return via the southern fells. This tour is a chance to see the real Lake District!

Day 1: Following your home taxi collection we head north to Penrith and our hotel for the next four nights, the North Lakes Hotel & Spa, on a dinner bed & breakfast basis

Day 2: This morning we make our way to the popular town of Bowness where we enjoy free time in this bustling town with its craft and gift shops, lakeside cafés and tea rooms. We then continue our journey through the Lake District passing through Ambleside before reaching Grasmere. Nestling at the foot of some spectacular fells and with its own lake, this village has many shops, pubs and cafes. You can also visit Wordsworth's grave in the churchyard and buy the legendary Grasmere Gingerbread. Our final stop of the day is Keswick. Keswick is the epitome of a Lake District town, being located in between two lakes, Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite lake, with a never ending list of things to do and places to explore. Known for its historic landmarks, iconic walks, picturesque views and friendly ambience, it is the perfect place to end our day out.

Day 3: Today we enjoy the highlight of the tour, the famous ‘High Adventure’! The ‘Mountain Goat’ minibuses take us where large coaches cannot go.

Day 4:  This morning we cross the border into Scotland and visit the Devil’s Porridge Museum. The unique name of the museum is inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who while visiting the factory as a war correspondent witnessed the munitions girls mixing the nitrocotton by hand and commented ‘that is the devil’s porridge’! We continue to Wordsworth House and Garden in Cockermouth. It is preserved as it would have been when he and his sister lived here with their parents in the 18th century.

Day 5: Sadly we have to depart our hotel and head back to Norfolk where our door to door taxi service will be waiting to return you home.
