Day 1: Following your home taxi collection, we join our luxury touring coach and head North to Yorkshire and the City of York. Our hotel for the next for 4 nights is the 3 star Queens Hotel, on a dinner bed and breakfast basis.
Day 2: Today is ‘York in a nutshell’. After breakfast we are joined by our tour guide for a comprehensive morning sightseeing tour of York. We then enjoy a cruise on the river Ouse where you will discover more about all York’s history, as well as picking up some local knowledge, thanks to live, on-board commentary from the home-grown skippers. After our cruise, there will be time to visit the many attractions that York has to offer. Founded by the Romans and featuring the magnificent 13th century York Minster at its centrepiece, the city features some breath-taking architecture, make sure you bring a camera! With quaint cobbled streets and welcoming taverns alongside its vibrant café scene, York offers the perfect contrast of old and new.
Day 3: This morning we leave for a spectacular scenic tour to Whitby and the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. Our first stop is Pickering where we join the North Yorkshire Moors Railway for a ride across the moors as we make our way to the historic seaport of Whitby, with its ruined Abbey atop the cliff overlooking the busy harbour. We have time for lunch here and to explore the town before returning across Blakey Ridge, offering some of the most spectacular views of the area. From Hutton-le-Hole we continue to Helmsley for a short break before returning to the hotel.
Day 4: We have the morning free for further exploration of York city centre. You can visit the Jorvik Centre, The National Railway Museum, walk the City Walls, the list is endless. No visit to York is complete without seeing the magnificent Minster, and the surrounding narrow streets and little alleyways, including the famous Shambles. This afternoon we visit delightful Castle Howard. This baroque masterpiece, more a palace than a house, was conceived by Charles Howard, 3rd Earl of Carlisle, and executed by Sir John Vanbrugh from 1699. The house stands within 1000 acres of parkland and formal gardens, where peacocks roam. The setting is idyllic, but it is the house itself that draws the eye. Castle Howard is centred on a striking dome, with two wings enclosing a courtyard. To the north, the ground falls away to a large lake, to the south, formal gardens share space with more water features and several glorious follies. Admire the awe-inspiring architecture and world-renowned collections and uncover more about the rich 300 year history of the Howard family and the estate. As one of Britain's grandest stately homes and the largest house in Yorkshire, the house has featured on screen and is well known as the filming location of Brideshead Revisted and more recently Bridgerton.
Day 5: Sadly this morning we depart our hotel and make our way back to Norfolk making suitable stops along the way. We re-join our door to door taxi service who will be waiting to take you home.
