Day 1: Following your home taxi collection, we join our luxury tour coach and head to Warwickshire and the Chesford Grange Hotel for our 4 night stay on a dinner bed and breakfast basis.
Day 2: Our day begins with a drive north to the city of Coventry where we visit the Museum of British Road Transport. There are over 400 artefacts and thousands of items of memorabilia from the golden age of cars and cycles. The museum is only five minutes’ walk from the world-famous Coventry Cathedral. We have time for lunch here before we head off to Baddesley Clinton House. Dating back to the 15th century and home to the Ferres family for over 500 years, it is a moated medieval mansion with furnishings from the Elizabethan era. The history of the house is fascinating – it was a refuge for persecuted Catholics and has no less than three priest holes to discover. Outside there are stunning gardens and a romantic lake.
Day 3: This morning we head to the little village of Foxton. Here, we board ‘Vagabond’, an elegant motor launch, for a trip on the Grand Union Canal, where we will see the Foxton flight of 10 locks, and gently pass through peaceful countryside. At Foxton, there is a canal-side pub where you may wish to enjoy lunch or simply enjoy a stroll along the canal. In the afternoon, we head for the northern outskirts of Leicester where we join the Great Central Railway for a nostalgic steam train ride for 18 miles to Loughborough crossing picturesque Swithland Reservoir on the way.
Day 4: Our excursion this morning takes us to Kidderminster where we join the Severn Valley Railway for a ride along the valley to Bridgnorth, passing through delightfully restored stations on the way. From here, we head for the Black Country Museum, an open air museum where Birmingham’s industrial past is brought to life. If you’re a fan of ‘Peaky Blinders’, you may recognise the museum as many scenes were filmed here! Covering over 26 acres of former industrial land, this award-winning museum offers a glimpse into 200 years of history. Meet the historic characters, who will show you what it was like to live and work in one of the first industrialised landscapes of Britain as you explore the reconstructed shops, pubs and houses. Watch live demonstrations, take part in old-fashioned street games or perhaps visit the vintage cinema!
Day 5: After breakfast we depart our hotel and make our way back to Norfolk making suitable stops on the way. Upon arrival our home taxi service will be waiting to return you home.
