Day 1: Following your home taxi service we board our luxury tour coach and head North to Darlington making suitable stops en route. We enjoy tea/coffee and biscuits on our arrival whilst our luggage is taken to our rooms.
Day 2: This morning we travel over the moors, across Blakey Ridge, through picturesque Hutton-le-Hole to Pickering, where we join the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. We will journey through the heart of the national park through rugged moorland to Whitby – passing through Goathland – ‘Aidensfield’ in TV’s ‘Heartbeat’ on the way. Whitby is a charming little fishing town which has a fascinating past. Why not wander the ruins of St Hilda's Abbey or explore the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, where you can learn about the famous explorer's life in the port town.
Day 3: Today we begin with a drive to historic Richmond, which is situated high above the River Swale. Here you will find a castle, The Green Howards Museum and the Richmondshire Museum, which houses the ‘set’ from ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ (entry not included). Leaving Richmond, we head for the ‘Wensleydale Railway’ for a nostalgic ride through rural scenery from Leyburn to Leeming Bar. We then re-join the coach and head to Thirsk, a small market town which was once home to the author James Herriot. For those who wish, there will be time to take in the acclaimed World of James Herriot Centre (not included) before we return to the hotel.
Day 4: Our first visit today is to Preston Park and Hall Museum. The estate is set in 100 acres of beautiful parkland overlooking the River Tees. The museum has displays of art, armour and social history. Visitors can discover what life was like in the home from 1825 and stroll back in time along a typical local street of the 1890s where the museum’s resident traditional craftspeople can be found at work. As well as the museum, Preston Park also has a range of permanent attractions including exotic bird life in the aviary and wildfowl pond and many riverside and woodland paths. Whilst here we join the ‘Teesside Princess’ and take a gentle cruise on the River Tees through beautiful countryside to the cobbled town of Yarm, famous for its location on the River and the awe-inspiring railway viaduct. This afternoon, we drive through Bilsdale - “Little Switzerland”, past the Sun Inn, which has had the same landlord for 200 years! We then pass Rievaulx Abbey and drop into Helmsley with its 12th century castle. On our way back to the hotel we journey over the spectacular Sutton Bank, giving you fantastic views of the moors and the Vale of York.
Day 5: Sadly this morning we depart our hotel and head back to Norfolk making suitable stops en route. Upon arrival we re-join our door to door taxi service who will be waiting to take you home.
