Day 1: Following your home taxi collection we make our way to Chester, arriving late afternoon at the The Queens hotel for our 4 night stay on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis.
Day 2: We begin today in charming Chester with a tranquil, 30 minute cruise on the River Dee, including commentary. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore this pretty medieval city. Whilst here, take a step back in time and walk down the cobbled streets to discover the famous black and white ‘rows’ in the city centre. The half-timbered buildings now house some of Chester’s most beautiful stores, boutiques and restaurants. In this majestic city, you will find one of the largest Roman amphitheatres in Britain; with ongoing excavations just outside the old city’s walls. Take time to discover Chester’s Roman heritage and walk the two-mile ring of Roman walls made from local red sandstone.
Day 3: This morning we visit the medieval market town of Nantwich, with its atmospheric streets, medieval timbered buildings, and abundance of antique and craft shops before travelling to Northwich to enjoy a ride on the magnificent Anderton Boat Lift. Originally built in 1875, the structure lifts passengers aboard the elegant Edwin Clark boat from the River Weaver to the Trent and Mersey Canal high above. A comprehensive visitor centre houses an exhibition focusing on the lift’s history together with its control centre, so visitors can get close to the action.
Day 4: Today we head to the Wirral Peninsula. First stop is the historic and idyllic garden village of Port Sunlight, which was built in the late 19th century by Lord Lever as a home for his soap factory workers. Today, it is home to a museum, parks and a world-class art gallery, all off which you will have time to discover. Whilst here we also include a circular guided coach tour giving you an insight into life as a 'Sunlighter'. Later we travel to the award winning Ness Botanic Gardens. Founded in 1898 by Arthur Kilpin Bulley, a cotton merchant with a passion for gardens and plant collecting. Not only are these gardens beautiful, but they also contain one of the most interesting plant collections in the country, with many rare treasures. Azaleas, rhododendrons, a rock garden, laburnum arch, wildflower meadows and herbaceous borders, plus National Collections of sorbus and birches, provide year-round interest.
Day 5: Sadly, this morning we depart our hotel and head back to Norfolk making suitable stops en route. Upon arrival our door to door taxi service will be waiting to take you home.
