Day 1: Following your home taxi pick up we make our way to the Mickleover Hotel Signature hotel in Derbyshire for our 4 night stay on a dinner bed and breakfast basis.
Day 2: Our first visit today is to Bakewell where Jane Austen resided whilst writing Pride and Prejudice. Bakewell may, perhaps, be best known for its famous Bakewell pudding - or should it be tart? and no doubt that is what attracts many tourists, but the town has much more to offer than this tasty culinary treat. The town is full of rich heritage and tradition. Why not visit one of the many tea rooms or country pubs or perhaps feed the local ducks and geese by the River Wye. Bakewell also has some great independent shops and art galleries. Later we continue to Haddon Hall. Home to Lord and Lady Edward Manners, Haddon Hall is one of the country’s most elegant stately homes in England. Haddon invites visitors to immerse themselves in centuries of history, art and craftsmanship, and stroll around the Hall’s magnificent cascading gardens, enjoying uninterrupted views of the Peak District. Experience the Hall’s grandeur, marvel at the rare 15th-century frescoes in the Chapel and savour the plethora of roses which shroud the limestone walls in a sonnet of pale pinks and whites. It is the choice location for many film-makers, playing host to three versions of “Jane Eyre”, became Prince Humperdinck’s Castle in cult movie the Princess Bride and was also used in “Elizabeth”, “Pride & Prejudice” and “The Other Boleyn Girl”.
Day 3: This morning we head to Lyme Park. Nestling on the edge of the Peak District, Lyme Park was once a great sporting estate and home of the Legh family for over 500 years. The beautiful parkland and gardens are set against a backdrop of sweeping moorland with extensive views across the Cheshire Plain. The 1,400 acre estate with its medieval herd of red deer is a paradise for bird-watchers and wildlife spotters. For a more tranquil stroll, explore the Edwardian rose garden, ravine garden or orangery next to the reflecting lake where a certain Mr Darcy met Miss Bennett in the BBC production of 'Pride and Prejudice'. On our return journey we have free time in the town of Buxton before we continue back to our hotel.
Day 4: Today we visit Chatsworth House, the inspiration for Mr Darcy’s home of Pemberley. Chatsworth House is a historic English country estate that has served as the home of the Dukes of Devonshire and their ancestors since the mid-16th century. It is one of the finest country houses in the Peak District, drawing countless visitors into its opulent halls every year. This magnificent house will leave you feeling mesmerised by its beauty and innate grandeur. Wander from room to room steeped in history, marvel at the beautifully manicured gardens and soak up the history of this grand house.
Day 5: Sadly after breakfast we depart our hotel and head back to Norfolk making suitable stops en-route. Upon arrival, our door to door taxi service will be waiting to return you home.
