Day 3: This morning we head west, via the little village of Fovant. Fovant is well known locally for the Fovant Badges which are a set of regimental badges cut into a chalk hill, Fovant Down, near the village. They were created by soldiers garrisoned nearby, and waiting to go to France, during the First World War. We continue our journey to Shaftesbury. A small market town in Dorset, well known for one road in particular, Gold Hill, made famous by the Hovis advert. From here you have fantastic views over Thomas Hardy’s Blackmore Vale. This afternoon we continue to one of the Worlds most famous landmarks Stonehenge, an iconic, unforgettable prehistoric site. There have been monuments here for over 5,000 years and the unique stone circle was erected in around 2500 BC. Stonehenge’s visitor centre tells the tale behind the stones and the Neolithic huts give a glimpse into the lives of our ancient ancestors.
Day 4: Today after a leisurely breakfast we head to Mottisfont House and Gardens. This former priory has an incomparable beauty, and is full of delights and surprises. Discover a wealth of creativity, conflict, love and loss as the house is brought to life through a changing array of exhibitions. 20th century society hostess Maud Russell hosted numerous events here, with guests including The Churchills, Ian Fleming and the Bloomsbury Group. Outside, carpets of spring bulbs, walled gardens, rich autumn leaves and a colourful winter garden create a feast for the senses all year.
Later we make our way to Winchester for an afternoon at leisure. Popular for its bustling shopping streets, Winchester is best known for its eleventh century Cathedral and for the Great Hall which for over 700 years has housed the mysterious King Athur's Round Table.
