Day 1: Following your home taxi collection we make our way to the 4 star Skiddaw Hotel in Keswick for our five night stay on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis.
Day 2: Today we cross the border into Scotland and visit the Devil’s Porridge Museum. The unique name of the museum is inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who while visiting the factory as a war correspondent witnessed the munitions girls mixing the nitrocotton by hand and commented ‘that is the devil’s porridge’! We then continue to Wordsworth House and Garden in Cockermouth. The house was the birthplace and childhood home of romantic poet William and his sister Dorothy and is presented as it would have been when they lived there with their parents, three brothers and servants in the 1770s. Explore the kitchen, children’s bedrooms & cellar before heading out into the stunning 18th-century garden, laid out just as it would have been when William played, and learned his love of nature here.
Day 3: This morning we travel to the picturesque village of Grasmere where we break for coffee. Nestling at the foot of some spectacular fells and with its own lake, this village has many shops, pubs and cafes. You can also visit Wordsworth's grave in the churchyard and buy the legendary Grasmere Gingerbread. We then continue to the pretty village of Coniston. Half a mile from the village is Coniston Water where on the shores of the lake Donald Campbell set the water speed record in Bluebird in the 1950s. We return to the hotel via Hawkshead, a tiny village of higgledy-piggledy houses, archways and squares beloved by William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter.
Day 4: Today we travel via the Kirkstone Pass to Bowness. The centre of Bowness is made up of quaint alleyways and streets where you will find enticing gift shops, chic delis and atmospheric pubs. You may wish to visit The World of Beatrix Potter (entry not included) or enjoy a relaxing cruise on Lake Windermere (not included).
Day 5: Explore Keswick at leisure. This pretty market town offers a wide range of attractions for visitors, from shops and restaurants to museums with a difference, and boating trips around Derwentwater.
Day 6: After breakfast, we depart for our return to Norfolk. Upon arrival, our door to door service will be waiting to return you home.
