Day 1: Following your home taxi collection we join our luxury tour coach and head to Barnstaple in North Devon and our hotel for the next 4 nights, the four star Park Hotel, on a dinner bed and breakfast basis.
Day 2: This morning, we head for the twin villages of Lynton and Lynmouth, where we can take the cliff railway from one to the other! The unique Victorian water powered funicular cliff lift (disabled access is limited) will transport us 500ft up and down to the villages. It’s elevated position delivers the most exquisite panoramic views that you could ever wish to encounter, combining majestic seascapes, sweeping moorland and luring sheltered bays. It’s no wonder the Victorians affectionately referred to the region as ‘Little Switzerland’. Here we can explore their little independent shops selling local produce, gifts, arts and crafts. In the afternoon, we head to Illfracombe, where we have free time to relax on the seafront and explore the attractions and picturesque natural harbour.
Day 3: Today we spend the morning in the charming market town of Barnstaple. The ancient town preserves a medieval character and is reputedly England’s oldest borough. While here, why not have a look around the famous pannier market with its local Devon specialities or grab some lunch in one of the cosy bars or cafés. We then make our way to the stunning Hartland Abbey & Gardens, the cherished home of the Stucley family. It is bursting with treasures and memorabilia collected over many generations and visitors can wander through the house and the beautiful 18th century walled and woodland gardens. The Abbey is a popular filming location, and many films and TV programmes have been filmed here, including Sense & Sensibility and Enid Blyton’s Malory Towers. *Please note the main reception rooms will closed for filming. Gardens, grounds and exhibitions on the lower floor of the house & tea rooms will be open.
Day 4: This morning, we make our way to enchanting RHS Garden Rosemoor. Nestled in the Torridge Valley, the Rosemoor gardens are eye catching at any time of year with several gardens to explore, including the fragrant rose gardens, the brightly coloured Hot Garden, the Foliage Garden, Stone Garden and Exotic Garden to name but a few. Whilst here we also include a 1 hour general garden tour. This afternoon, we spend time at leisure in the traffic-free lanes of the historic harbour town of Bideford. Explore the quirky little shops, the riverside quay and the historic indoor Pannier market (involves an uphill walk).
Day 5: Sadly this morning we depart our hotel and make our way back to Norfolk, making suitable stops along the way. On our arrival we re-join our door to door taxi service who will return you home.
