Day 1: Following your home taxi collection we join our luxury tour coach and make our way to Sheffield, making suitable stops en route.
Day 2: Today is free for you to explore Sheffield at your own leisure. Perhaps visit the botanical gardens which features a Grade II listed Glass Pavilions which houses a wonderful collection of plants from the temperate areas of the world. In the 1900s Sheffield was famed for its industry, and it remains a city of innovation to this day. However, the smoking chimney stacks are no more - instead you'll find a green, modern cityscape set against the stunning backdrop of the Peak District National Park. With an amazing array of independent eateries and microbreweries, colourful street art and fascinating museums, there’s always something to keep you entertained.
Day 3: Today we head into the Peak District on a scenic drive to the picturesque market town of Bakewell. Bakewell may, perhaps, be best known for its famous Bakewell pudding - or should it be tart? and no doubt that is what attracts many tourists, but the town has much more to offer than this tasty culinary treat. The town is full of rich heritage and tradition. Why not visit one of the many tea rooms or country pubs or perhaps feed the local ducks and geese by the River Wye. Bakewell also has some great independent shops and art galleries.
Afterwards we visit Chatsworth House - a historic English country estate that has served as the home of the Dukes of Devonshire and their ancestors since the mid-16th century. It is one of the finest country houses in the Peak District, drawing countless visitors into its opulent halls every year. This magnificent house will leave you feeling mesmerised by its beauty and innate grandeur. Wander from room to room steeped in history, marvel at the beautifully manicured gardens and soak up the history of this grand house.
Day 4: This morning we start with a drive to Chesterfield. The distinctive Crooked Spire dominates the skyline and there are numerous local legends as to why the spire twisted, however it is thought to have been triggered by green timber covered with heavy lead tiles.
Whatever the truth, the base of the spire of the Parish Church of St Mary's and All Saints - which stands at 228 feet high and 'leans' 9 feet and 6 inches from its true centre - is a great place to get a panoramic view across the town and beyond.
Back on solid ground, Chesterfield is a paradise for shoppers, with its handsome Market Hall and cobbled Market Place. Nearby in the charming Shambles are a cluster of independent shops and cafés, while you'll find famous High Street names at the Pavements and Vicar Lane Shopping Centres.
If you're fascinated by history, why not visit the Chesterfield Museum and Art Gallery charting Chesterfield's commercial and industrial past. (all attractions in Chesterfield subject to individual choice and payment)
This afternoon we travel to Hardwick Hall and Gardens, one of the finest Elizabethan buildings in the country. Once home to one of the most influential women in the Elizabethan realm, Hardwick Hall is the culmination of the personality and ambition of its builder and patron Elizabeth, Countess of Shrewsbury, known as Bess of Hardwick.
Positioned high on an escarpment dominating the skyline of Derbyshire, Hardwick Hall is a rare 16th-century survival. Built and resourced from the estate by local people.
Near original interiors allow us a glimpse into this exceptional moment in English design. They hold an internationally significant collection of 16th-century textiles, furniture, and portraits reflecting the quality of craftsmanship, cultural mix, and complex relationships of the Elizabethan age.
You will also be able to enjoy the glorious gardens at Hardwick, including the fragrant herb garden, ornamental and fruiting orchards and a spectacular border of herbaceous plants.
