Every year, villages and towns along the Rhine Valley are illuminated by a series of spectacular ‘Rhine in Flames’ festivals. Throughout the summer, the Rhine lights up as Europe’s biggest parade of illuminated ships sail along its waters. The river valley basks in the glow of thousands of red Bengal lights and a kaleidoscope of colours fill the night’s sky as the spectacular hilltop firework displays welcome the flotilla. Join us as we enjoy the Rhine in Flames Festival.

We also visit the wine town of Rüdesheim, enjoy a trip into the Moselle Valley to spend some time in Cochem, and even enjoy a wine tasting at the famous Anton Hammes wine cellars.

PLEASE NOTE- **There has been an itinerary change and price reduction on this tour**

PLEASE NOTE ITINERARY CHANGE-

Day 1:
Following your home taxi collection we join our platinum executive tour coach and make our way to Kent for our crossing to France. We then continue our journey through Belgium and Germany until we arrive in Boppard for our 5 night stay on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis.

Day 2: The best scenery awaits today, as we make the short walk to the quayside where we join a boat for a cruise through the Rhine Gorge, passing hill-top castles, picturesque towns and vine-clad slopes. This stretch of water is regarded as the most beautiful on the Rhine. We also see the legendary Loreley Rock before arriving in the ever-popular town of Rüdesheim.  We disembark for a short break in this wonderful town before we re-join our boat for the return journey. We return to hotel for our evening meal.

Day 3: This morning after a slightly later departure from our hotel we travel along the Moselle Valley to Cochem. Said to be one of the prettiest towns along the Moselle, with its many fine buildings, quaint cottages, black and tan guild houses and winding streets. It is dominated by the ancient and mighty Reichsburg Castle, dramatically perched on a hillside overlooking the town. Later we wind our way along the rivers edge until we reach the enchanting wine village of Bernkastel-Kues. The old town square of Bernkastel is deemed to be among the most well-preserved in the country, and still exists much the same way it used to stand several centuries back. The square is lined with rows of gabled, half-timbered houses, dating as far back as the 17th century, giving travelers the distinct feeling of stepping back in time. The old town square also has the best cafes and restaurants in town, most of which offer traditional German cuisine.

Day 4: We begin the day with a drive though the Hunnsbruck Hills to Alken, which is located in the Moselle Valley. Here we have an included wine tasting at the famous Anton Hammes wine cellars. The Hammes family have been vintners here for over 300 years, and you will enjoy a wine tasting, with 4 or 5 different varieties offered, before having the chance to purchase your favourites to bring home with you!

From here we continue the short distance along the Moselle to Norwich’s Twin city of Koblenz, which is famed for the mighty Ehrenbrietstein Fortress. We have some free time to visit the Deutsches Eck (German Corner) on the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers before making our way back to the hotel.

Day 5: This morning, we cross the river and head to the ‘wine town’ of Rüdesheim, home to the vibrant ‘Drosselgasse’, a narrow alley lined with restaurants, shops and bars, many playing traditional Rhineland music and the perfect place to enjoy a glass of local wine or beer. En-route we make a quick stop at the Loreley rock viewpoint. The Loreley is the centre of several fairy tales, myths and legends. The most famous is probably the one about a blond, long-haired girl named Loreley, sitting on the rock above the Rhine and brushing her golden hair while singing a sweet melody. Her face and the vocals were so enchanting that the skippers looked up to the Loreley and drove towards the dangerous reefs, rocks and shoals of the Rhine. On arrival in Rüdesheim we visit the Asbach Visitor centre for a chance to sample some of the finest Brandy from the area. We then have ample time to explore at your leisure in this charming town.

Day 6: Sadly we say ‘auf weidersein’ to our hotel and begin our journey back to Calais for our crossing to the UK. We then continue to Norfolk where our door to door taxi service will be waiting to take you home.
