If you haven't visited for a while, then banish those thoughts of a resort that has seen its hey day.... the best is yet to come. With its iconic palm trees, busy harbour, international marina, sandy beach and wonderful array of continental style cafes, restaurants and cocktail bars, the scene is set for the perfect Devon seaside holiday.
What’s more, we stay at one of the best hotel’s in Torquay – great accommodation, fine dining, and even an indoor pool…. The perfect mix for a much needed getaway
Day 1: You will be picked up from home by our door-to-door service and taken to the coach for the journey southwest to Devon, arriving at our hotel late afternoon for 4 nights dinner, bed & breakfast.
Day 2: After breakfast, we make our way to Buckfast to visit the 12th century Abbey and its beautiful grounds. Home to a community of Benedictine monks, Buckfast Abbey lies on the banks of the River Dart. Here, we have the chance to explore the Abbey church with its art treasures, wander the tranquil gardens or browse the gift and produce shops. We continue our day with a visit to the pretty fishing port of Brixham, a maritime treasure with a busy fishing port. Here you can wander the maze of narrow streets or visit one of the many cafes around the harbour and watch the world go by.
Day 3: Today we enjoy an excursion over Dartmoor to Widecombe on the Moor. A village steeped in history and famous the world over for Widecombe Fair and Uncle Tom Cobley. Take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the hospitality of the cafés and fine old inns; browse the craft and gift shops; and admire the many fine buildings, especially the 14th Century St Pancras Church – “The Cathedral of the Moor.” We continue our day to Newton Abbott, an historic market town which is surrounded by beautiful South Devon countryside. Some of the town’s history can be seen with a visit to St Leonard’s Tower, the remains of an ancient church demolished in 1836, which sits in the centre of the town. The history of the town can be explored further with a visit to the GWR Museum. (attractions subject to individual choice and payment)
