From here, we continue our journey south through Germany, before crossing the border into Austria, heading to Kirchberg In Tirol and our hotel for the next five nights, the Hotel Zentral, on a dinner bed and breakfast basis. We are welcomed with a glass of Austrian Snapps while your luggage is taken to your rooms.
Day 3: Todays excursion takes us to Innsbruck, the ‘capital of the Tyrol’. Located on the River Inn and at the foot of the Karwendel Alps, Innsbruck is the fifth largest city in Austria. This beautiful city is surrounded by stunning mountain scenery and steeped in history. During your free time you can explore the array of Christmas stalls with the traditional market-taking place in the heart of the historic Old Town and overlooked by the famous Golden Roof.
With a stunning location just in front of the famous Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl), Innsbruck’s Altstadt Christmas Market is one of the top Advent markets to visit in the city. With everything on sale here from souvenirs and Christmas decorations to handmade crafts and treats, this market is not only a great spot for browsing, but for photos! If you’re lucky, you’ll even catch a musical performance from the Golden Roof itself.
A cup of Glühwein will keep you warm whilst you browse the stalls. Be sure to wander down Innsbruck’s main shopping street the Maria-Theresien-Straße. Here you will be dazzled by lights, glass and crystal whilst browsing the modern stalls selling international gifts and delicious treats.
While visiting the Christmas Markets, be sure to duck into Kiebachgasse, which the city decorates as a ‘fairytale alley’ with characters from some of the world’s most beloved fairytales.
Day 4: (Christmas Eve) This morning, we enjoy a trip through the stunning Kitzbühel Alps, stopping in the historic town of Kitzbühel. Upon arrival we enjoy a horse drawn carriage ride through the town enabling you to familiarise yourself with the area and enjoy some excellent photograph opportunities. The rest of the day is then at leisure for you to explore this beautiful town. Dating back to the 16th century, Kitzbühel is famous for its vibrantly coloured buildings that line the main pedestrianised cobbled street in the centre and is home to the rich and famous. Take time to explore the traditional boutiques, admire the picturesque buildings and fine old churches which date back over 700 years, or enjoy a spot of lunch in one of the many cafés. We return to our hotel in time for this evening’s five course Gala dinner, followed by an evening of Austrian Christmas Music as we light candles around the Christmas tree.
Day 5: (Christmas Day) Happy Christmas!! Enjoy a leisurely day to open your presents or wander around Kirchberg, You may even fancy a go at Curling on the hotels private curling rink, but remember to be back at the hotel before lunch.
