Tuesday 18th June 2024
Today we head to Bury St. Edmunds for a guided tour about the history of the town.
Named after King Edmund, the original Patron Saint of England and King of East Anglia. After morning coffee, your blue badge guide will begin a walking tour of the town and gardens beginning in the Appleby Rose Garden.
Free time for lunch (not included) will be given before meeting back up for a short informative walk with your guide to the Guildhall via the Corn Exchange.
The Guildhall oversaw trade in the town and was the heart of the wool trade. Its also housed a group on unsung heroes who helped to change the course of World War 2. During the visit to the Guildhall, you will learn about the way the Royal Observer Corp plotted and observed enemy aircraft from observers in Norfolk and Suffolk to help coordinate the RAF missions.
To round off the day, a cream tea will be served in the Guildhall before heading home.
