Day 1: Following your home taxi collection, you will join our luxury tour coach and we will head to Hexham and our hotel for the next four nights, the four stay Slaley Hall, on a dinner bed and breakfast basis. Upon our arrival, you can relax with a cup of tea/coffee whilst your luggage is taken to your rooms.
Day 2: Today, we take the coastal route along the Northumberland coast to visit Berwick-upon-Tweed. Fought over for centuries, this is the most northern town in England and sits directly on the Anglo-Saxon border. Dominated by three bridges crossing the River Tweed, a walk along the riverbank and ancient ramparts offer spectacular views. Whilst here, why not uncover the town’s turbulent past with a visit to Berwick Barracks or the town hall’s 18th-century jail? (entry not included)
This afternoon we visit Alnwick where you will have the rest of the day at leisure. Alnwick is home to an impressive castle and is bursting with pretty streets and interesting shops, such as Barter Books, one of the largest second-hand bookshops in Europe.
Day 3: Today’s excursion takes us to the north of Northumberland, across the causeway to Holy Island where you may wish to visit the mysterious Lindisfarne Castle (fare to the castle not included). On our return we have free time in the village of Bamburgh. Whilst here why not visit the mighty castle on the beach, or head into the Grace Darling Museum. (attractions today subject to individual choice and payment) NOTE: The crossing of the causeway to Holy Island is governed by tide times. It may be necessary to amend this excursion.
Day 4: Today we are met by our guide who will treat us to a full day step-on discovery tour of Hadrian’s Wall. We discover the true history of the Wall during this fascinating journey along Rome’s most Northerly frontier. Our expert guide brings Roman heritage to life as we explore Corbridge, a former Roman village, see some of the most spectacular parts of Hadrian’s Wall and visit Vindolanda to experience one of the best-preserved Roman forts and museums. Formerly a key military post on the northern frontier of Britain, Vindolanda is the home of Britain's 'Top Treasure' - the Vindolanda Writing Tablets - and is one Europe's most important Roman archaeological sites, with live excavations taking place every year.
Day 5: Sadly this morning it’s time to bid farewell to our hotel and head back to Norfolk making suitable stops en route. Upon arrival, our door to door service will be waiting to return you home.
