Day 1: Following your home taxi collection, you will join our luxury tour coach, and we will make our way to South Yorkshire, and our hotel for the next 4 nights, the impressive Mercure Tankersley Manor.
Day 2: Today we visit Brodsworth Hall and gardens to hear of its impressive rise as a country seat. Brodsworth Hall is an outstanding survivor of a bygone era. Completed in 1863 and Set in 15 acres of award winning formal gardens, the Hall is conserved as found and contains a fully furnished interior, with every item once owned by 3 successive generations of the Thellusson family. Meanwhile the beautiful grounds, a collection of grand gardens in miniature, have been restored to their full Victorian splendour, and feature a colourful array of seasonal displays.
On our return to the hotel, we visit much loved Elsecar Heritage Centre. This hidden gem, steeped in history and brimming with character, offers a unique blend of heritage, stunning landscapes, and vibrant community spirit. Elsecar is a remarkable village transformed by the industrial revolution, with a rich legacy of ironworks and collieries that shaped its landscape and people.
Day 3: Today we are off to Bronte country and Haworth where a Bronte themed guided tour awaits. It tells the story of the family and uses their letters, diaries, poems and writing to weave their lives into the fabric of the village and the social history of the times. If you are a Brontë fan, or if you are just discovering this story for the first time, there is something for you in this tour.
From here, it is a short journey to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. First opened in 1867 to transport coal and textiles to the local mills, you will journey back in time and enjoy five miles of stunning scenery.
To round off the day, we will head to the Victorian spa town of Ilkley, known for its breath-taking moorland scenery, with time to wander at your own pace.
Day 4: This morning we head to Sheffield and the Kelham Museum. Here, you will explore the story of making in the city, from master craftsmen to mass production. Experience life and work during the Industrial Revolution, follow the sights and sounds of progress through the Victorian era, celebrate the Women of Steel and see how industry forged the modern city. You may also hear the roar and feel the rumble of the mighty River Don Engine, the 425 ton 12,000hp visitor-favourite in steam and find out more about the industry that saw Sheffield become world-renowned for making and innovation.
After our visit, and in complete contrast, we take a scenic drive to the Peak District National Park and the village of Castleton, located at the head of the Hope Valley. Castleton is the only place in the world where the semi-precious stone Blue John, unique to the Peak District and Derbyshire, can be found and there are numerous shops to explore.
Day 5: After breakfast, we make the journey back to Norfolk making suitable stops en route. Upon arrival, our door to door taxi service will be waiting to take you home.
