Wiltshire is a county filled with hidden gems and steeped in culture. The stunning scenery has provided a fabulous backdrop for many a star of stage and screen and there is an abundance of natural and man-made history. This includes the Great Western Railway and Dr Jenners House – a pioneer in vaccination medicine.

We also visit WWT Slimbridge on the eastern side of the estuary of the River Severn. The reserve, set up by visionary artist and naturalist Sir Peter Scott, opened in November 1946, is an inclusive and accessible destination. Take a step back in time as you enter Sir Peter Scott’s home where he championed the cause of worldwide wildlife conservation, or for those wishing to venture further afield, there are numerous hides and paths to wander along to experience the wildlife of the Severn Estuary.

Day 1: Following your home taxi collection, you will join our luxury tour coach as we head to Wiltshire and our hotel for the next four nights, the four star Best Western Blunsdon House Hotel on a dinner bed and breakfast basis.

Day 2: Our first stop today is STEAM, where the story is told of the men and women who built, operated and travelled on the Great Western Railway. The engineering genius of Isambard Kingdom Brunel led to the Great Western Railway network becoming regarded as the most advanced in the world. As well as locomotives such as ‘Caerphilly Castle’ and ‘King George V’, the museum features audio visual and interactive displays.

Later, we travel to Bowood House and Gardens, home to the Lansdowne family since 1754. There is a  range of exhibition rooms displaying amazing family artefacts and antiques, including the Laboratory where Dr Joseph Priestley isolated oxygen gas in 1774. Surrounding the Georgian House is the Italian-inspired terrace garden, the private walled gardens, and the herbaceous border.

Day 3: Today our destination is Bath, where we include a morning guided walking tour. The rest of the day is then at leisure to explore at your own pace. Bath is the only city in the UK to be named a World Heritage Site. Renowned for its stunning architecture, this wonderful city has something to see at every turn. Marvel at the stunning Bath Abbey, the last of the great medieval churches of England, with unrivalled views of the city, or be intrigued by the Circus, a masterpiece by John Wood, forming the shape of a key when viewed from the air. The Pump Room is well worth a visit, and there are several museums, including the world’s largest costume museum.

This afternoon we continue to Berkeley, where we visit Dr Jenners House, where Edward Jenner made a discovery that changed the world. Here, you can explore the lifetime home of innovator Edward Jenner, who left the ongoing legacy of vaccination, still shaping our lives today. You can also wander around the beautiful garden, still containing many of the herbs that he would have used.

Day 5: Sadly this morning we depart our hotel and head back to Norfolk, arriving late afternoon. Upon arrival our door to door taxi service will be waiting to return you home.
