With some of the most beautiful beaches in the country, there’s no wonder the coastline of Torquay is nicknamed the English Riviera. Popular throughout the whole year, Torquay offers endless delightful cafés, restaurants and bars to relax in, along with countless sights, activities and attractions.
Be sure to stroll around its bustling picturesque harbour, or, why not take a boat trip to enjoy the view from a different perspective? Torquay’s many landscaped gardens and scenic walks are the perfect way to spend your time here.
Day 1: You will be picked up from home by our door-to-door service and taken to the coach for the journey southwest to Devon, arriving at our hotel late afternoon for 4 nights dinner, bed & breakfast.
Day 2: This morning we head for Totnes where we join the dart river cruise for a single journey to Dartmouth. Upon arrival you will have free time to explore this delightful maritime town with its narrow streets, overhanging medieval buildings and old quays, as well as its breath-taking views across the Dart estuary. We then take the ferry across the River Dart to join the Dartmouth steam railway for a journey back to Paignton where our coach will be waiting for you. The Dartmouth Steam Railway runs for seven miles in Great Western tradition along the spectacular Torbay coast. The scenery is superb, with seascapes right across Lyme Bay to Portland Bill on clear days.
Day 3: Today we have a full-day tour that begins with a drive over Dartmoor to Tavistock. This ancient stannary town is the only town in Devon to hold world heritage status. The vibrancy and uniqueness of Tavistock is undeniable with a range of beautiful local independent shops which are a far cry from today's typical high street. Not to be overlooked is the famous pannier market or the award-winning farmers’ market. After time to explore, we head across wild and rugged Dartmoor to Princetown. After lunch, we head to Moretonhampstead and the famous House of Marbles. You will explore a history of glass and watch master craftsmen at work from the viewing platform inside the working glassworks on site. There will also be time to look through the collection of board games, marble games and bagatelles from the early 1600s in the site’s games museum for a true sense of nostalgia.
Day 4: Day at leisure to explore Torquay and enjoy the hotel facilities. Be sure to stroll around its bustling picturesque harbour, or why not take a boat trip to enjoy the view from a different perspective? (fare not included). Torquay’s many landscaped gardens and scenic walks are the perfect way to spend your time here.
Day 5: After breakfast, we depart Torquay for our return journey back to Norfolk making suitable stops en route. Upon arrival our door to door taxi service will be waiting to take you home.
