Day 1: Following your home taxi collection we travel to Harrogate, arriving late afternoon at the Old Swan Hotel for our 4 night stay on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis.
Day 2: After a leisurely breakfast you have time to explore Harrogate at leisure. Perhaps take a stroll through the beautiful Valley Gardens, followed by some retail therapy around the independent shops of the Montpellier Quarter or in the delightful Victorian Westminster Arcade. Perhaps visit the famous ‘Betty’s Tearooms’ for a morning break or look around The Mercer Art Gallery, just a short stroll from the hotel.
Day 3: Today we head to the historic cathedral city of York where you will be able to make the most of the city and enjoy the atmosphere of the Christmas Markets. Get yourself in the Christmas spirit as you wander around the St. Nicholas Fair in the centre or you could wander off the beaten track to find the hidden gems down the Shambles or browse around the diversion selection of unique goods on the Shambles Market. When you’ve had your fill of shopping, take a little time out to visit the spectacular York Minster itself.
Day 4: This morning we visit Pickering. This picturesque town is steeped in history and brimming with character, offering a unique blend of old-world charm and modern amenities. From its beautifully preserved 13th-century castle to its historic market-place, Pickering is a place where the past comes alive. From William the Conqueror to Oliver Cromwell and Harry Potter, several notable historical and fictional characters have graced the town of Pickering throughout the years adding to its rich tapestry. As far as small towns go in North Yorkshire, there will be few, if any, that boast a castle, a heritage railway and a church with world-renown frescoes; all of which attract thousands of visitors.
This afternoon we head to Castle Howard, one of Britain’s finest historic houses. Discover the festively decorated house at your own pace, admiring its awe-inspiring architecture, grand state rooms and world-renowned collections. Open fires, candle light and live music evoke all that we love about this special time of year, with the iconic 25 foot Christmas tree adorned with over 3000 baubles providing a breath-taking highlight in the Great Hall.
Day 5: Sadly this morning we depart our hotel and head to Beverley. A stunning market town, with its towering gothic minster, pretty market squares and beautiful Georgian townhouses. It’s a town steeped in history, yet one with an attractive present. From home-cooked market-fare to cafe culture and Michelin starred restaurants, your palate will be pleased with a visit to East Yorkshire’s larder. After our visit we make our way back to Norfolk where our door to door taxi service will be waiting to take you home.
