Kensington Palace

Kensington Palace has been a favourite royal residence since the late 17th century when a small, suburban villa was extended and transformed by master architect Sir Christopher Wren. Queen Victoria grew up here, first met with her great love Prince Albert and learnt she had become Queen. More recently it was home to the late Diana, Princess of Wales and it is where her sons Prince William and Prince Harry spent much of their childhood. It is now the London base for the Prince & Princess of Wales, William & Catherine, and their three young children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Visitors can immerse themselves in the palace's history through the special exhibitions, walk through the re-imagined childhood rooms of Queen Victoria, take a tour around the King and Queen's State Apartments, or explore the world-renowned gardens.

The must-sees during a Kensington Palace Tour

  • The Kings State Apartments, each grander than the last, where the fortunate might just meet with the monarch.
  • The Kings Staircase – intriguing characters from 18th-century court life survey us from the walls!
  • The State Apartments – cosy, private rooms used for relaxation away from the activity of the court.
  • The Sunken Garden with its beautiful flower displays where the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their engagement.

Highclere Castle

Highclere Castle is one of England's most beautiful Victorian Castles set amidst 1,000 acres of spectacular parkland. The Carnarvon family has lived at Highclere since 1679, and the current Castle stands on the site of an earlier house, which in turn was built on the foundations of the medieval palace owned by the Bishops of Winchester for some 800 years.

Longstanding friend of the Carnarvon family, Julian Fellowes had Highclere Castle in mind as he wrote the drama Downton Abbey. It was filmed on location here at Highclere Castle. He often commented he wanted a house which spectacularly testified to the confidence and soaring optimism of the Edwardian period.

The success of Downton Abbey took everyone by surprise from the first nervous apprehension whether anyone would like the first episode or stay with it for the second or third… the series has become a phenomenon with appreciative viewers all around the world.

Your visit will include entry to the house, gardens and Egyptian exhibition.
