Day 1: Following your home taxi collection you will join our luxury tour coach and head north, through the stunning British landscape and rolling countryside to our hotel in Cumbernauld, the Westerwood Golf Hotel and Spa on dinner bed & breakfast basis;
Day 2: This morning we depart the Westerwood Hotel and head north into Scotland’s stunning Highlands making suitable stops enroute. Our destination is Thurso, Britain’s most northerly mainland town, for a 3 night stay at the Pentland Hotel on a dinner bed and breakfast basis.
Day 3: Today we make our way to Gills Bay where we board the ferry to St Margarets Hope. This picturesque village is the main town on the Orkney islands and lies at the head of a sheltered bay with houses surrounding the attractive waterfront. On our arrival we are joined by our guide who will take us on a voyage of discovery through time itself, on a guided coach tour of the magical Orkney Islands. Here, you will have the chance to see the World Heritage sites of Skara Brae, the Standing Stones of Stenness and the Ring of Brodgar, plus Scapa Flow, the Churchill Barriers, the Italian Chapel and the Island’s capital, Kirkwall, with its magnificent Cathedral. This will be the highlight for many and you will be amazed by the history and culture of this beautiful part of the country.
Day 4: This morning we make our way to the Castle and Gardens of Mey, once the much-adored home of the Queen Mother, who saved it from ruin in 1952. With glorious views across the Pentland Firth towards Orkney, the castle is kept as it was when the Queen Mother was in residence. This afternoon you are free to explore Thurso at your leisure.
Day 5: Sadly this morning we depart our hotel and head first to John ‘O ‘Groats, as no visit to this region is complete without a visit to this famous landmark. Just 11 miles from Dunnet Head, the mostly northerly point of mainland Britain, the small coastal village of John o’ Groats is the starting point for many embarking on the famous 'End to End' journey to Land's End in England, some 876 miles away. Situated in an extreme location, this Highland village combines dramatic, unspoilt scenery and fascinating wildlife, including a breathtaking array of birdlife on the local cliffs, as well as seals, dolphins, minke and killer whales in the surrounding waters. From here we sit back and admire the amazing scenery as we make our way south to our hotel for the next 2 nights, the Stirling Highland hotel on a dinner bed and breakfast basis.
Day 6: Today is a day at leisure in Stirling. Whilst here we have included entry into Stirling Castle. In its grandeur with its superb sculptures and beautiful gardens it was a favoured residence of the Stewart kings and queens who held grand celebrations from christenings to coronations. Today you can meet the costumed characters, court officials, maids of honour and servants who will welcome you into 16th century life. Other highlights include the Great Hall, Chapel Royal, Castle Exhibition, Regimental Museum, Great Kitchens, Tapestry Studio and the nearby Argyll’s Lodging, a 17th century town house. The refurbished Royal Palace – childhood home of Mary Queen of Scots has been decorated as it may have looked when the Scottish king’s grand scheme was complete. The rest of the day is spent at leisure. (Please note, it is a 0.6 mile walk from the hotel to the castle)
